September 27th and 28th, 2008 are National Alpaca Farm Days. Join alpaca breeders from all over the country as they open their doors to the public to teach you more about our beloved alpacas. Visit National Alpaca Farm Days to find the farms nearest you.

FYI: There are two kinds of alpacas. Suri and Huacaya. Both are pictured above. The suri’s fiber hangs in locks. Suri fiber is the most lustrous natural fiber on earth. The huacaya’s fiber stands away from the body, like a teddy bear’s. Huacaya fiber is a very fine luxurious fiber, comparable to cashmere. Alpaca fiber lacks lanolin and is considered hypoallergenic. Alpacas come in over 22 natural colors, more than any other fiber bearing animal. Plus they are adorable to look at.
