thank you for your reply. we have 40 acres up here in Hurley Wisconsin. our winters are very col sometimes -30. I love animals and wonder if alpacas could live comfortably here. summers are not too hot maybe 1-2 weeks get into the low 90's. I was wondering if there is an alpaca farm near me i could go visit. thank you very much

I am a 56 year old female...and having never lived on a farm or owned any animals other than the standard 'pets'...do you think it's foolish to hope some day (maybe in the next few years) to own a small plot of land and raise goats and/or alpacas? Do those two creatures get along well? If I had to choose ONE...I'd have to weigh the pros and cons of both; I like alpacas for their beauty, their fleece, and environmentally friendly padded feet; I like goats for their playful personalities, their milk (for soaps & cheese), and their low purchase price. What advice could you offer me? Is it feasible - in your opinion - for someone my age to begin a venture such as this? I love animals and believe I would be MOST CONTENT living and caring for them until my dying day.
Thanks for any suggestions and advice!

Yes, it does take some time to care for this many alpacas. But I have some secret weapons, 4 kids and a husband, AND a full-time farm manager, Jeremy. Jeremy does a lot for the farm which allows me to still be "Mommy". He is a blessing!

Caring for 15 alpacas and under is a snap. It's when the number gets over 20 that it is like a "job". But still a fun one.
