Hi Katy,
I was looking for info on droopy ear crias and your link came up. I had a 12.5 pound female born this 7:45am about day 335 (bred 9/12) and both ears are like puppy dog ears. Delivery was textbook…no problems at all. Is it just because she is so early? Other than that she is up and trying to nurse. Thoughts? As always thanks for your expertise!!

Yes, Cria is the word for a baby alpaca. It means “creation” in Spanish. It is a cool word.

Beautiful! We have a couple of alpaca farms nearby (northern Colorado) and try to make the rounds on Alpaca Farm Days so we can visit the babies. These are wonderful animals, and of course the fiber is incredible. One day I'll get back to spinning and weaving... one day. Thanks for sharing your pics! Katy, forgive my ignorance I keep on seeing the word “cria” is that what baby alpaca’s are called?

It’s a lovely word and when I read it the next word to come to mind is Crèche.

i need an alpaca translation book. ha! that little ear is cute, and of course that baby is cuter then pie! hmm, maybe instead of a new dog, I can get an indoor alpaca….

j/k but do you think they would herd with my sorta sheep dog? wouldn’t that be a riot.

Ohhhhhh what a precious baby. I would give my right arm, well almost, for an alpaca. My hubby says llamas and a camel are enough. I’m sorry but neither can touch alpacas for pure cuteness. Thanks for visiting my blog, I will certainly be visiting your’s again just to get my fix! Kim

I love rose grey, too! And it is SO hard to get. When I first started with alpacas I thought I would specialize in grey. But when my 3 grey dams (bred to grey sires) had all brown and black babies, I threw my hands up in the air. So now when we do get a grey girl, we know how blessed we are!
