New Cria from Honeybelle

We’ve been waiting for Honeybelle to have her cria, and today he finally arrived!

This was how I found Honeybelle this moring when I went out to do chores around 8am. She later had her cria around 11am. This is how alpaca dams look when they are in labor. Uncomfy. Sometimes when they are in labor they won’t eat, but Honeybelle ate her grain around 9am. Labor makes some gals hungry.

Honeybelle loves her cria. She’s a great mom. Her first cria, Cantigny, is in the new Alpacas Magazine. Cantigny is pictured twice in an article I wrote for the Herdsire edition entitled Which Sire To Hire.

This little guy is darker than both parents. (SCA Peruvian Magnum is his dad.) He’s adorable. I’m in love.
So far we’ve been calling him Dexter.

HI Katy,
Congratulations on your new baby, he’s adorable. Is Magnum his daddy? How did you class go on the 18th? We wished we could have been there! Some of the farms here in Phoenix have started there shearing this week. Today we were close to 98 degrees. Talk to you soon!

Thanks y’all! And yes, Lori, Magnum is his dad. I just edited the post to show that. He looks like both mom and dad, but I have one picture where it looks like he’s TRYING to look like his dad. Will save that for another post about alpaca cria who look like their parents. So fun.
