“Magical” Alpacas Video
| Alpaca farm prepares for World Alpaca Conference |
This is a great video about alpacas featuring Tripp Forstner of Magical Farms (with a cameo of dad and king of their alpaca farm, Jerry Forstner) Magical Farms is home to approximately 1600 alpacas! They do alpacas on a significantly larger scale than most of us. The majority of alpaca breeders have under 30 alpacas in their herds.
Tripp is well-known as the guy in the show ring with the red bowtie. He can often be found winning Championship banners with various alpacas from Magical Farms. Over the years we have bought several alpacas from their farm and have always been impressed that they were able to offer such great customer service for such a large operation. Read more about one of America’s largest alpaca farms. Enjoy the video!

what a fun videe. for a guy who has so many alpacas, it’s great to see the twinkle that’s still in his eyes when he talks about them!

1600 alpacas is hard to imagine when you have as few as we do, but my wife went down to Australia, Ambersun Alpacas, and picked out a foundation herd for us. They have about 1000 down there, and it was wonderful, she says. Alpacas everywhere you looked!
Great video. Thanks, Katy

Stephanie – LOL! Well Tripp was fortunate enough to have his family already in the alpaca business when he came aboard. I’ve had a few people ask if I would adopt them so they could have alpacas. But, really, if you want to get alpacas, just contact myself, Tripp, or any other alpaca breeder and we’ll be thrilled to answer all of your questions! (my email is katy at alpacafarmgirl.com) Alpaca Breeders are a friendly, passionate bunch of folks.
Angela – I know what you mean. That’s one of the great things about alpacas, you never get tired of them! They still have the ability to make me gasp in wonder.

Katy: I noticed that the legs on those alpacas weren’t sheared. I don’t have a lot of experience with alpacas, admitedly, but that’s the first time I’ve seen that. Is that common?

Mary,
How much fleece to leave on the legs and head/face depend on the farm and the breeders’ preference. We take the legs way down on all but our show alpacas and breeding males. It keeps the animals cooler where we are (Deep South). Other climates allow for more fiber to be kept on. People/Judges like to see leg coverage so we do keep it longer on the ones that need to “prove” they’ve got it. But we watch them closely and if they get too hot, it comes off. Health is more important than looks!
