The Alpaca Bunny Smackdown
It started as a friendly competition among online Twitter buddies @Alpacamundo (Kathryn) and @Sheepmama (Lynn). They got to talking about whose fiber was finer (& perhaps better), @Sheepmama’s adorable angora rabbits’ or @Alpacamundo’s beloved alpacas’?
They decided that they would settle the matter once and for all by having an impartial judge, master spinner @vtknitboy, spin a sample of both fibers. Each participant sent a sample to Chris (@vtknitboy who blogs here) for him to spin. They also sent samples to each other so they could spin the others’ fiber and comment on it. I begged them to let me post the results on Fiber Arts Friday and they agreed. I think they felt sorry for me because they know I feel pitiful because I can’t spin.
[If you are wondering what all the weird names with the @ sign in front of them are, those are their Twitter handles, and you really oughtta get one.]
Read Kathryn’s take on the smackdown here and Lynn’s here. We are awaiting our Celebrity Judge Chris’ results and his account of the Alpaca Bunny Smackdown this Friday. I admit to stalking him contacting him in order to get inside scoop. He’s not talking so bugging him to death asking him about it won’t work.
This week on AlpacaFarmgirl we will be celebrating both alpacas and bunnies, the animals and their fiber. We will hear from both the rabbit camp and the alpaca camp. Since we are an alpaca-based blog, the bunny will go first. In addition, we will have several giveaways this week! We’ll be giving away fiber and yarn so check with us each day this week. Tune in Friday for the unveiling of the judges results on the Fiber Arts Friday Blog Carnival, where you can also link your own fiber-related blog posts. We want to see what YOU’ve been up to with your knitting, weaving, quilting, spinning, felting, etc. projects.
New Developments will be archived here on the Alpaca Bunny Smackdown post.

Oh no! Bunny is CUTE! I wasn’t expecting to have to deal with cute. I know alpacas are cute, but it’s a little harder to say, “squash the bunny” once you’ve seen her/his face. Don’t make it worse by telling me it has a cute name too.

This is hilarious! I admit to being bunny-biased. Can’t wait to see where you come out on this

Furbies! They look like Furbies–or what was that little creature in that Star Trek episode that captivated with cuteness and then bred like crazy?

OMG Kathleen they do look like furbies. And I already want a section of my future farm designated as bunnyland. (@gsbandit1)

Tribbles, Kathleen, tribbles…
What a seriously kewl idea!
And Alpaca Farmgirl? Yes, you CAN spin. Trust me. The trick is PARK AND DRAFT. Add twist, draft until it looks decent. Treadle to wind on and then add more twist…if you’re ever in N. California, let me know and I’ll teach you hands-on!

Not fair using a picture of a baby bunny. Though I must admit that they stay cute as they grow up too. As an angora breeder, I am voting for the bunnies, but as a spinner, it is a harder choice. I think they are very different fibers. I can’t wait to hear what the opinions are.
