Fiber Arts Friday – Dyeing
Last weekend at SAFF I took two classes on dyeing. It fascinates me how many ways you can dye things. Different people use different methods. Some use acid dyes, while others use plants, Easter egg dyes, or food coloring. Some use kettle dyeing, others use steam, a crockpot, or a microwave to activate the color of the dyes. I find the whole process magical, and I enjoy hearing of other cool ways to dye!

G’day, fabulous colors in the last photo. I have not dyed anything. But I remember in school we did fabric dyeing and I like that. I think I twisted the fabric and placed a rubber band around the middle and dyed with few colors. The result was fantastic, circles in the middle and colors around, everyone loved it and they used it as a table cover for displaying of crafts. Now I cannot remember where it went, they probably kept it…as they do with all things that are excellent..anyways check out my new fav fab fingerless gloves…ciao and have a great day

sorry I posted late-crazy days lately–have done my best dyeing with Kool Aid in canning jars and heated on the stove in a big canning pot. I’ll try to post some picures of it nest week.

I do the Kool-Aid method. Since I live in a really small apartment and my boyfriend has weird allergies, I’ve found the best way to is mix Kool-Aid in a Ziploc bag and set it outside for a few hours. The AZ sun does the rest, even in the winter! The only downside is that the whole piece of roving has to be one color, but that just means I get to mix and match my colors when I spin them.
