Fiber Arts Friday – Spider Silk Tapestry

One-Of-A-Kind Tapestry woven from spider silk

Have you seen this? This beautiful tapestry was made from spider silk. It took four years and over a million spiders to make. They had to recruit “spider wranglers” to “harness” the spiders to capture their silk. Odd, but fascinating! Read more about it and listen to the NPR story. The tapestry is in New York this week at the American Museum of Natural History.

I have a feeling that most of you haven’t been wrangling spiders this week. What have you been doing with fiber? Share with us below by linking your blog post to Fiber Arts Friday.

Wow, I want to touch it! Four years. I don’t think I would have the patience although after the Alpaca Bunny Smackdown I am really debating about getting an angora which means I would have to wait awhile to get enough fiber…oh my sweet alpacas, in one year’s time you produce enough fiber to keep me spinning for months.

That is absolutely amazing. Don’t you know it just feels incredible? I worked on a white Angora rabbit full length coat once that took two years to spin and knit. Thought I would go crazy before it was done.
