The New Kitten

Our newest addition snuggles with her dad
Lucky for me I was out of town at the Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair. That way I could not be blamed for bringing yet another animal into our home. We already have 3 cats. I’m allergic to cats. Yet I love them. All were rescued or were stray kittens who found us.
Here’s the story as it was told to me… It was Friday night. My oldest child was being dropped off after seeing a play, and her friends wanted to take a quick peek at the alpacas. They went into the alpaca boys’ barn, and a tiny kitten appeared of the darkness meowing up a storm. They picked her up, fell in love, and began the chant of “Dad, can we keep her?”
To which Dad responded (as tough ol’ dads will), “No. Put her back. Don’t handle her or her mother won’t come back for her.” Replaying the scene in countless movies where pre-adolescent girl finds animal she loves and her father forbids aforementioned relationship (think Dreamer or Flicka
) – my oldest disobeyed and hid the kitten in playhouse with a saucer of milk.

Kitty Hideout
This all happened on Friday. By the time I got back on Sunday, the Artists had melted. He had a new favorite girl – the 3 week old kitten. When the kids aren’t home, she follows him around and sleeps on his neck and shoulder. It’s an adorable love affair.

"I love my new home."
All of our other cats are boys. It’s nice to have a girl. Last summer, we found a litter of kittens in the boys’ barn. The mom had put them in a box she found in that barn. Once we “discovered” them – she moved them. About 10 days later, an orange kitten, who now goes by the moniker, “Roscoe” was found all by himself on the farm hungry and pitiful. I adopted him even though he’s a real stinker.
I think this new little kitten is Roscoe’s sister. She looks just like his mom and sisters. However, she has much better manners. And no one can blame me. How sweet is that?

She loves to hop in all of these boxes in the pantry.

Me too Linda!
Isn’t it great, Jackie?
Kate, there’s still debate about her name. The Artist is wanting it to be Terra. But oldest wants it to be Tabitha. I see both sides. It took us months to settle on a name for her brother Roscoe. He had 4 or 5 that didn’t stick. Will keep you updated.

She not too cute! Love kittens but remember they do turn into cats! That seems to be the problem here. I am glad you have a new little girl in your life, even if she’s really Daddy’s little girl.

Awww, what a cute little kitten. I love her coloring! I don’t think you can tell a girl that she can’t have the kitty! LOL! I’m glad she has a good home now.

You need a heart of steel to resist a 3 wks old kitten, especially such a sweet little Tortie! Just make sure you get her spayed on time – so you don’t end up with even more.

She is such a cutie pie!! Such a gorgeous color too.
At least my cat isn’t the only one who loves boxes! I have a 1 1/2 year old kitten named Clara who loves sleeping on my bed with me, but loves sleeping in an empty Pepsi case. I’ve tried tossing it, and even tried replacing it with a new box, but Clara will have none of that.
