Hot Oil and Hard Work

Spa

I’ve been away from blogging recently so that I could have some spa time. Not really. But this is what I need.

The last month has been filled with more farm work than ever. Our farm manager has moved on, and we’ve had to find an extra 40 hours a week to do farm work. That, in addition to Christmas, three birthdays, new cria, 4 kids out of school, New Years, and the mountains of laundry that I can never seem to conquer – has provided me with more than enough to do.

I’m just dreaming of a spa day. Pampering myself is not how I usually reward myself. (I’m addicted to TV so I usually just watch some tubeage. Oh, and there’s the occasional cupcake.) Even though I’ve only had 3 pedicures in my life (two were from gift certificates someone gave me) – I have actually had this spa treatment pictured above!

It’s called Shirodhara. It’s like a massage, then they dribble oil on your “3rd eye” the spot between your eyes. Feeling adventurous, I booked this treatment while on an anniversary trip to Vegas. Spent the rest of the time in the sports book betting on the ponies. Won enough to buy a fabulous handbag and pay the babysitter.  I could use another trip like that.

For now I’ll dream of my next Shirodhara, and keep scooping…

What do you do to pamper yourself? Leave a comment and tell me.

We’ve missed you! Blogs and Twitterworld just not the same.

I’ve actually had a couple of spa days in my life and I cherished every second of them. The whole mind, body, spirit thing.

Alas, I own an alpaca farm now so my funds are tied up in my herd so I’ve found a new way to relax…spinning.

I love to spin. I now have three wheels depending on what I spin. I enjoy combing, carding, blending and spinning. It doesn’t feel like a chore at all and I have my setup right in the living room so I don’t ignore the family. Feeling that alpaca fiber run through my fingers as I let the wheel twist it into yarn is my new happy place.

Look forward to seeing more posts from you and hope you have everything back under control at the farm.

    WonderWhyGal,
Thank you. I missed you too. My spinning is slowly getting better, and I do find myself craving sitting at the wheel. Last time I tried it shredded everything and I can’t figure out what I did wrong. I think I need to file and oil?

That’s a great point, our fiber pursuits are relaxing!

I was wondering why you had been so quiet! Glad to know you are only exhausted :)
I have a space in my hay barn where I make myself sit, on a bale of hay, away from everything for at least 5 minutes a day. No phone, no computer, and even no alpacas. 5 minutes isn’t that long, but to quiet the mind of the self employed does take some effort! I also love spinning to “unwind” but my mind is not quiet as I plan the next spinning or knitting project.
You have inspired me to share my secret hidaway and I think I’ll take my camera out there with me today, maybe post a photo or 2 on my blog.

as for pampering myself just being able to go down to my yarn shop and actually be able to sit down and knit is my pampering. normally I have my two year old son with me and all he wants to do is play with the loom and spinning wheels so normally I just grab what I need and leave as fast as possible

I used to get hot wax hand dips at my hairdresser but she has changed locations…no more hot wax:( I need to get one of those wax pots for myself. Glad you’re back and can only wonder at the massive amount of work y’all go through on your farm ! Can’t wait to see more baby pictures!
