Rachel Alexandra the Great Indeed – Woodward Stakes

I have loved horse racing since I was a kid. Sunday Silence and Strike the Gold were some of my favorite race horses growing up. I remember loving to watch Medaglia D’Oro run. Now his daughter, Rachel Alexandra has captured the hearts of millions. I first heard of the filly in May after she won the Kentucky Oaks. Rachel has gone on to win the Preakness, the Mother Goose, and the Haskell.

In an attempt to prove her greatness, her owners decided to run her against the older boys in the Woodward Stakes. Rachel Alexander is awesome, but a female shouldn’t be able to beat older boys in a race like this. No filly has ever won the Woodward. Hang onto your hat. Here she goes:

Watching Rachel is like watching Michael Phelps in the Olympics. Your heart soars. She makes you believe that anything is possible. That girls really can do anything. Anything.

Thank you Rachel! From the bottom of our hearts. Thank you.

Spring Cria are Growing

Jubclose709

The blog has been rather serious lately so I thought we could use a little fluff. Here are some of our Spring cria and how they are growing. Above is Jubilee. Remember when she was brand new? Seems like yesterday.

This is a little black Roso son, Thor.

Rosaleeleft709

Here’s Rosalee, born to our 17 year old girl, Cacia. Love her markings. She’s a peppy, happy little cria with a sunny disposition.

Who can forget the two babies from A Tale of Two Cria? Rachel Alexandra and Amity.

RachelA

Rachel A., named for the incredible filly, Rachel Alexandra (who will be running this Saturday in the Woodward Stakes.) has grown like a weed! She weighs over 60 lbs. already and looks more like the moms in her pen than the cria. She is very athletic and runs like a gazelle, way faster than her friends.

Amitymomhd

Amity was the weak little cria born on the same day as Rachel A. She was as weak as Rachel was strong. But today you’d never know she had a slower start. Amity is a favorite of mine. Her fleece is to die for, and she has a quirky cute little face.

Lucindafrnt709

Last, but certainly not least, is Lucinda. Her 18 yr.old dam, Lucy, was the long-time matriarch around here. Sadly, she went on to greener pastures when Lucinda was two months old.

Lucinda did remarkably well transitioning over to being bottle fed. She is a spunky, intelligent girl. She takes the bottle more easily than any alpaca we’ve ever had, making our lives easy. It is a real pleasure to see her every time we go to the barn she bounds over to greet us.

Aren’t they sweet?
