Why invest in Alpacas NOW?

- Amber
Why now? Well, let’s face it – other investments look pretty bad right now. My husband loves to watch CNBC, and today, it’s pretty depressing. Banks failing here, big companies failing there…the bad news is everywhere. Me, I just turn it off and go hang out with the alpacas.
I love that they don’t know who Fanny May and Freddy Mack are or how many points the Dow dropped. The alpacas really could care less. They just keep eating grass in the field, happily gestating. Growing my investment day by day, blissfully unaware of the pressures and stresses of Wall Street. Herd compounding slowly occurs and the alpacas are not bothered by housing market woes or outside economic pressures.
Many are also insured. Yes, alpacas can be
insured for full mortality and theft. We even have a herdsire whose fertility is insured. They come with great tax benefits, and who doesn’t like to save money on their taxes?
Certainly, the alpaca industry is not immune to the economic doldrums. Alpaca prices are down some. That is what makes now the right time to invest. Those who invest now will be “buying low”. As the economy comes around as it inevitably will, prices on alpacas (high quality ones mind you) will go up as well. It’s a natural cycle in business. In the meantime, those of us who invest in alpacas this Fall will get great values on the animals, reduce our tax bill, and build our businesses for the future. Works for me.
