Set 3 Goals for 2009

We know that if we don’t set goals, we cannot attain them. Social media whiz, Chris Brogan, urges us to set 3 one-word goals.  These one word goals should encompass what you are trying to achieve but also broaden your world a bit, helping you to see big picture as well. Chris advises, ” Try setting your three words far out on the horizon, but such that they can lead you to your goals every day. Meaning, can you use the same word to get you started, but have it still be relevant when you are almost at the big goal?”

Inspired by the concept, here are my 3 goals for 2009:

BUILD.  FIBER.  SIMPLIFY.

1. Build. It is our goal to relocate our farm this year. When we do, we will be building all of the structures and infrastructure from scratch. I would also like to build my business and my blog. Many years we sell so many animals that it is hard to grow our alpaca herd. Since the economy has slowed the sales of everything, I look forward to this being a great year to build our herd.

2. Fiber. For years I was like most many alpaca breeders with a barn/closet full of fleece. When I started raising alpacas this was very common. Breeders were too busy raising the alpacas to spend a lot of time on the fiber side of things. (Plus the financial returns on the breeding side is generally greater than the fiber side.) Then it started to become politically incorrect in the alpaca industry to leave your fiber in the closet. These days alpaca fiber is becoming more appreciated and utilized. The number of options breeders have for what they can do with their fiber is growing every day. Not to mention that cash flow created by fiber and end product sales is essential in today’s economy.

Now that my children are older I have more time, and I have discovered my passion for alpaca fiber. For me, it was falling in love with needlefelting that did it. Then, a friend who is a knitting guru pushed me to do more with my fleece. Now I am hooked. This year I intend to have all my fiber processed and get my online store up and running so I can sell a variety of great alpaca products. We will also be having several fiber related classes on the farm. Beginning Knitting is coming up February 21.

3. Simplify. This will be a super tough one for me. I am a Clutterbug. There. I’ve said it. Recently a friend was helping me get my house ready to sell and she said, “Don’t be offended, but there I no way I would be married to you.” We laughed but it’s truth. I have too much stuff, too much to do, and too much to think about. This year I am going to work on simplifying things. I am being forced to de-clutter in order to have the farm on the market (and move). It’s as good a time as any. Hopefully, the program below will help me with this goal.
