George’s Close-Up

Each cria season I have some favorites. Occasionally I fall hard for one. Like George here, who was born on President’s Day. He makes me weak in the knees.
Happy Wordless Wednesday.

Sunshine and Rain before 10:30

My husband, the Artist, loves animals. He loves the alpacas. He, himself, is so tenderhearted that he probably never would have chosen a business that brought with it the inevitability of animals dying. We all feel sad when an alpaca passes away on the farm, but I’ve long suspected that the Artist takes it the [...]

Love This New Cria

I’m totally in love with this little cria that was born to my friend Stephanie Mize of Gulf Breeze Alpacas. The cria was sired by one of our herdsires. Guess which one? (Looks just like his daddy) I could blog about this kid all week. And I will later. On the road today. But I [...]

Ultra Takes To Motherhood

Ultra’s cria
Ultra had her first cria on Tuesday. With first time moms – you’re never quite sure what you are going to get. Most take to mothering well, some need a little more time to figure out what is expected of them. Ultra did a great job. She loved her cria from the beginning, and [...]

No Hair-Dryers Allowed

When alpaca cria (babies) are born on cold, grey days we usually use a blow-dryer to get them warm, toasty, and dry: ready for the world. Most of their moms are startled at first, but they usually decide it’s okay for me to blow-dry their cria.
Not Ultra. (see above green spit)

More Baby Phoenix…

The story of our new alpaca baby, Phoenix, was so popular yesterday that I thought I’d share some more pictures of his first day.
Phoenix’s dam is not so sure…
My little girl knows to be wary. Alpaca dams may spit, but Tapioka just sniffed her.
He’s looking for his “noonie” (as we call it). But…those are her [...]

Tiny Phoenix Alpaca Rises

It started out a glorious morning. My beloved herdsire Magnum was coming home from a long breeding engagement in Colorado. Another of our herdsires, Firecracker, was on trailer as well. IN addition there were three other alpacas who belonged to me but that I had never seen in person – Guardian Angel (our Archangel daughter) [...]

New Addition – Meet Baby Alpaca Tiana

Welcome Tiana!

We recently welcomed this little cria (baby alpaca) to our herd. Dam, Isolde, is a good momma to this precious Magnum daughter. The last picture above is one of my favorites.
It is the nature of babies to be in bliss.

New Cria for Magnum and Doe

Yesterday a cria was born on our farm. (A cria is what you call a baby alpaca). It comes from the Spanish word for “creation”. This little bundle of joy belongs to our friends, the Bowens, whose farm is Humming Star Alpacas. A few of their alpacas are being boarded with us while their barn [...]

Traffic Stopping Colorful New Cria

This precious little cria is the first one born to my friend, Dawn. (Dawn and I met through the blogosphere. You can check out her blogs at Kaiser Mommy and Room 704). Dawn is currently boarding her alpaca herd with us, and we are so excited for her and her family that their first cria [...]
