New Cria for Magnum and Doe

Yesterday a cria was born on our farm. (A cria is what you call a baby alpaca). It comes from the Spanish word for “creation”. This little bundle of joy belongs to our friends, the Bowens, whose farm is Humming Star Alpacas. A few of their alpacas are being boarded with us while their barn [...]

Thank A Farmer This Thanksgiving

I just caught the tail end of Tuesday night’s AgChat on Twitter. But they came up with a super idea about how we can thank farmer and ranchers for the hard work they do growing our food. With Thanksgiving this week, it seems like the perfect time to thank the hard-working farmers out there.
On Wednesday [...]

The New Kitten

Lucky for me I was out of town at the Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair.  That way I could not be blamed for bringing yet another animal into our home. We already have 3 cats. I’m allergic to cats. Yet I love them. All were rescued or were stray kittens who found us.

Alpaca Farm For Sale

Our farm is finally listed for sale. It took me forever and a day to do it, but we finally have it listed. Don’t worry. We’re just moving to a bigger alpaca farm. We ran out of room here and really want to be able to grow the herd.
You can find official listings and more [...]

“Never let a problem to be solved
become more important than a person to be loved”.
~Thomas Monson

Meet “Alpaca Joe”

One of the first people I met in the alpaca industry was Joe. He is the farm manager for Creekwater Alpacas, and he has his own alpaca herd that he calls Creekwater East. When we met him we knew a lot of people named Joe, so I always called him “Alpaca Joe” when I spoke [...]

Helping Mom on the Farm

I don’t know who was happier to have the kids at the barn this weekend – me or the dogs!
One guilty secret that I have is that I don’t have my kids help me with the farm every day. They do help, and they know how to do many chores, but during the summer – [...]

Joy of Living

The mere sense of living is joy enough. ~ Emily Dickinson

Always Do Right

“Always Do Right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.”
~Mark Twain

4th of July – Off the Farm

For the 4th of July we took a mini vacation and went to the beach. My son and daughter played on the dunes as the sun went down. These two are thick as thieves. Inseparable.

We love the gulf coast beaches because the sand is like sugar. It doesn’t burn your feet when you walk like [...]
